- Since Jack won his ticket aboard the Titanic from someone else in a poker game, it would make sense that his name wouldn't be on the manifest and no official record of him would exist on the ship.
- Jack was an American starving artist who won a trip home on the Ship of Dreams to a lucky hand in poker. His luck unfortunately ran out on April 15, 1912 after colliding with an iceberg in the northern Mid-Atlantic. Four days before the unsinkable ship began to fill with ice cold sea water, Rose and Jack's love story began.
Not wealthy enough to purchase tickets for the Titanic, Jack and his Italian friend Fabrizio are playing poker in a bar close to where the Titanic is departing. The two win third class tickets to the boat and dash to catch it. Once aboard, Jack has no difficulty exploring the first class section of the boat where he meets wealthy Rose DeWitt Bukater played by Kate Winslett.
The two fall in love after Jack stops Rose from committing suicide. She attempts to kill herself because she is engaged to the rich son of a steel tycoon Caledon “Cal” Hockley (played by Billy Zane) whom she is not in love with. The marriage is arranged by her mother Ruth DeWitt Bukater who is obsessed with maintaining her wealthy and high class status.
In Titanic (1997) Jack and Fabrizio win a pocket knife in the beginning of the film while playing cards. Fabrizio later uses the knife to cut the ropes of the life boats.
Later in the film, Jack sketches a nude portrait of Rose wearing the fabled “Heart of the Ocean”, an expensive necklace given to her by Cal. The two flee into the ship’s cargo hold where they make love and witness the ships collision with the iceberg. When Cal learns about Rose and Jack by discovering the drawing, he has Jack arrested and taken to the Master-at-arms office and handcuffed to a pipe. During the sinking of the Titanic, Rose frees jack with an axe, and both struggle to the deck where Cal and Jack persuade Rose to board a lifeboat. Cal ensures Rose that he has made arrangements for both men to get off of the ship safely.
Cal then double crosses Jack and Rose reunites with him on the sinking Titanic. Cal chases the two into the flooding first-class dining room with a gun, but returns to the deck after running out of bullets. Hockley then boards a lifeboat after pretending to care for an abandoned child.
After the Titanic sinks, Jack helps Rose onto a nearby wall panel that can support the weight of one person. Jack hangs onto the panel and ensures that Rose won’t die here, but will die in her sleep as an old woman. Jack then dies from hypothermia. After telling her full story, she drops the Heart of the Ocean into the deep.
Asleep in her bed, she dreams of the life she said she’s have with Jack and the young Rose reunites with Jack at the grand Staircase of the Titanic. The two are applauded by those who died on the ship. It isn’t known whether Rose is simply dreaming this or if she dies. Director James Cameron says that this is up to the viewer to decide.

“Rose, you’re no picnic, all right? You’re a spoiled little brat, even, but under that, you’re the most amazingly, astounding, wonderful girl, woman that I’ve ever known… ”
“No, let me try and get this out. You’re ama- I’m not an idiot, I know how the world works. I’ve got ten bucks in my pocket, I have no-nothing to offer you and I know that. I understand. But I’m too involved now. You jump, I jump remember? I can’t turn away without knowing you’ll be all right… That’s all I want.”
“I’m the king of the world!”
“We are the luckiest sons of bitches in the world, you know that?”
“Listen, Rose. You’re gonna get out of here, you’re gonna go on and make lots of babies, and you’re gonna watch them grow. You’re gonna die an old… an old lady warm in her bed, but not here, not this night. Not like this, do you understand me?”
“I don’t know about you, but I intend on writing a strongly worded letter to the White Star Line about all of this.”

17. Jack Would've Won The Poker Game Without Drawing A Card
Jack and Fabrizio's (Danny Nucci) journey aboard the Titanic begins after Jack wins two third-class tickets in a poker game at the start of the movie.

The way the scene plays out suggests that Jack only wins after drawing a game-winning card, yet if we take a quick look at Jack and Sven's (Dan Pettersson) hands, it's clear that Jack's already won regardless.
We see that Sven's hand was just two pair of eights and sixes, and Jack's was very clearly superior to that, being just one card away from a Full House and all.
It's some acceptable excess dramatisation at the end of the day, yet the general public has such a poor grasp of poker anyway that this is easily missed.
